Technology in Music (TiMmy)

Welcome to our Technology in Music course. This course evolves every time I teach it. The software changes, the tools we use are improved and become more efficient, the computers become more powerful, and new technologies are developed; but the greatest change comes from the students. Compared to the first time I taught this course, you have skills and experiences far beyond what students had in the past.

This course is divided into two broad (but related) areas of music technology: Live Sound and Studio Recording. We will spend approximately twenty percent of the course on Live Sound and the remaining eighty percent on Studio Recording. The course is "hands-on" and you will demonstrate your knowledge and skills by completing projects and tasks. Your grade will be based on your completion of the projects according to the guidelines, your participation, and some written work (quizzes and essays).

You will need the following materials for this course:
  • Access to a computer with internet access
  • USB flash drive (minimum 4gb)
  • Headphones
  • An e-mail address, mine is band@phcs.neric.org . All course communication and many of your projects will be submitted by e-mail.

Here's your first assignment:

And your second assignment:
  • Find 3 websites related to some aspect of music technology
  • E-mail me the links with a short description of each
