Math A
Course Description
The Math A Class is designed to teach students the skills necessary to pass the Math A Regents exam. The curriculm consists of basic Algebra, Geometry, statistics, probability. The course is taught in four semesters in a very structured environment. In class demonstrations, Homework and quizzes play major parts in the instruction.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of Grade 8 Mathematics is required before taking this class.
Assignments
Assignments for this class come in three different forms, Daily quizzes & Homework (the two of these together constitute one grade. 60% for the quiz 40% for the homework), Chapter tests, and extra credit. We strive for mastery in this class and reteach as well as allocate extra credit on an as needed basis.
Grading Policy
Grading is proportionally based on a combination of the students' daily quiz/homework grades, and exam grades. Extra credit assignments are added directly to quiz/exam grades.
Rubrics
Students will be graded on their Quiz and Exam grades.
Notes :
1.) Quizzes are given daily based on the previous nights homework and are worth 60 pts.
2.) Homework is also assigned on a daily basis and makes up the other 40 pts.
3.) Exams are given at the end of each chapter.
4.) Extra credit is given whenever the majority of the class seems to lack total comprehension or mastery of the material. (again these extra credit pts are added directly to quiz or exam grades)
