Amanda Mason and her program Musicality wins Martin Award for Excellence

On Feb. 11, 2016 Musicality was awarded the 2015 Karin P. Martin Memorial Award for Excellence from the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau. This award is in honor of Karin P. Martin. She was in a fatal car accident in 1989. As a Board member, Karin was an exceptional leader and representative. She voiced her opinion with dignity on behalf of youth in St. Lawrence County, and strongly believed that youth involvement and board participation is of extreme importance in the planning and decision making process. The award is given to an exceptional youth serving program.

Amanda created Musicality as an annual fundraising event for the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School music program. This event enlists members from the local community who volunteer their talents and time to create an event for citizens to come and enjoy a day filled with local musical entertainment as well as face painting, photo areas, raffles, an instrumental petting zoo, a bake sale, a silent auction, and food vendors.

The first Musicality event was held in 2012. Amanda Mason, the Musicality organizer, was just 13 years old when she came up with the idea and created the first event. Amanda recruited family members, friends, neighbors and students to assist with all aspects of organizing and participating in the event.

Ms. Mason's goals for this fundraiser are to earn as much money as possible to donate to the school music program. To date the program has raised over $7000.00.  Funds generated have gone toward the purchase of repair tool kits for band instruments and various needs of the music department. The Parishville Hopkinton Central School is a K-12 school and the majority of students are involved in the music program. Approximately 500 students are served by this program. Amanda Mason was honored to accept the award of $1000.00 on behalf of her Musicality Program. The funds will go directly to the PHCS Music program. “I am so pleased that Musicality can contribute to our music program. Our students deserve to have the opportunities of a quality program. Reality has shown money invested into the program can make a difference. I want to make a difference.”
