Guidance Department College Readiness Info

Dear Juniors, Seniors, Parents, and Guardians:

Are you receiving a ton of mail from colleges? Do you know when the SAT and/or ACT should be taken? Do you even know what they are? Are you worried about the cost of college? Parents and students alike are dealing with these issues. Juniors are starting to explore their options, and many seniors need some help and direction as they decide what their interests are, where to apply, what to major in, what they want in a roommate, and many other important details.

The PHCS Guidance Office will be hosting a presentation to answer questions and to discuss what you may expect during the college search process. I will also be reviewing timelines and procedures usually followed during the junior and senior year for students who plan to attend college. Information will also be distributed regarding SATs, ACTs, college open houses & visitations, the application procedure, financial aid, scholarships and a timeline with student deadlines.

The presentation will be held from 7:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the PHCS High School auditorium. I will make copies of my PowerPoint to hand out, along with all the college magazines, newspapers and “goodies” that I have been collecting for students and parents. Please call if you have questions but can not attend the meeting. (265-4642 x. 421)

In addition, on the morning of October 2, I will be bringing juniors and seniors to a College Fair at OFA. Students should return their permissions slips to me ASAP, as I will only be bringing one bus, and once it is full, I will not be able to take any more students. Parents may also attend during the day if they are free and all parents and students are invited to attend the HIGHER EDUCATION NIGHT, at the Augsbury Center at SLU that evening, from 6:00-8:00 pm. In addition, at 5:15 in Augsbury, there will be a selective college seminar for those applying to highly selective colleges.

I hope to see you September 26th!
