May 15, 2018 Board of Education Budget Vote Meeting Minutes

1:00 P.M.

Dr. Collins read the call of the meeting and announced the polls were open for voting on the 2018-2019 school year budget, proposed Bus Financing Resolution, and two (2) positions on the Board of Education.

 

8:00 P.M.

After ascertaining if all had voted who wished, Timothy Zellweger, Chairperson, declared the polls closed and requested the tellers to verify the ballots.

 

Ballots on the Budget for 2018-2019 as follows:

177 in favor (170 + 7 absentee ballots)

49 opposed (47 + 2 absentee ballot)

The Acting Chairperson declared the following Budget Resolution passed:

Be it resolved: that the Board of Education of the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District, towns of Parishville, Hopkinton, Stockholm, and Potsdam, county of St. Lawrence, be and is hereby authorized to expend $11,488,073 and to levy the necessary tax therefor.

 

Ballots on the Bus Financing Resolution for 2018-2019 as follows:

193 in favor (184 + 9 absentee ballot)

33 opposed (33 + 0 absentee ballot)

The Chairperson declared the following Bus Financing Resolution for 2018-2019 passed:

Be it resolved that the Board of Education of the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District, towns of Parishville, Hopkinton, Stockholm, and Potsdam, county of St. Lawrence, be and is hereby authorized to purchase one (1) 65-passenger school bus and one (1) 24-passenger school bus in the 2018-2019 fiscal year and expend therefore a gross sum not to exceed $175,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary, and that the aforesaid total be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments, or be paid from available funds, if possible, and further resolved that the board of education is authorized to issue obligations of the school district therefore in accordance with the education law and local finance law.

 

Ballots on Board Member vacancies as follows:

176 Ward Remington (168 + 8 absentee ballots)

185 Christina Snell (177 + 8 absentee ballots)

9 Marcia Bradley, Michelle Huto, Alfred Mason, Brad Mason (Write-ins) (9 + 0 absentee ballots)

 

The Chairperson declared Ward Remington and Christina Snell elected Trustees of the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School Board of Education for a term of five years each.

 

Motion made by J. Young and seconded by J. McGill to adjourn at 8:42 P.M.
