School Budget Re-Vote: June 16, 2015, 1pm until 8pm

School Budget Re-Vote: June 16, 2015 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Auditorium

Dear Parents and Residents,

As you may know, on May 19th, the voters of the school district voted 88-79 in favor of the proposed school budget. However, the close margin of approval failed to meet the 60% approval rate that is mandated under the State’s “Tax Cap” law. As such, the school district was left with two options. The first option would be moving the district directly to a contingent budget that would maintain the same tax levy amount as in the 2014-2015 school budget. The second option is to return to the public for a second vote. At a special Budget Meeting of the Board of Education on May 28th, the Board approved a second vote on the proposed 2015-2016 School District budget, in an effort to maintain the excellent educational programs here at the school, and to place the school in a positive financial direction that ensures our future.

Yearbooks Needed

PHCS is part of a grant that is digitizing yearbooks from each school in our BOCES district. We have been able to gather all of our published yearbooks except a clean copy of 1961, 1962 and 1977.  If anyone has a copy of these particular years that we could borrow it would be greatly appreciated. When all the years have been scanned in the school will have an announcement on our webpage letting everyone know. Please call Irene Sinclair (School Librarian) at school, 265-4642 ext. #1 if you have any questions or know where we could get copies.

Musicality 2014

Amanda Mason plans to raise money for her schools music program and provide entertainment for the community with Musicality 2014.

This will be her third year offering her program. Musicality 2012 and 2013 were successful in raising over $3000 in cash and musical instrument repair kits for the school. She is working hard to make this year’s program a success. Amanda J. Mason said she really enjoys all types of music. This year she attended SUNY Potsdam’s Crane summer youth camp. She came away invigorated and motivated to share her love of music with her community. “Music is the most important thing in my life,” she says. “Budget cuts are scary, I don’t know what we would do without our music programs. So many would lose if the programs are cut. This event is my service to my school and community to keep the music in our school system with as much funding as possible so the students can have a quality educational experience.”

School Bus Safety Drill

Dear Parent or Guardian:

On September 10, 2014 your child participated in a School Bus Safety Drill and will rehearse how to ride the bus safely, how to get on and off the bus safely, and emergency preparedness. These drills are required by the State Education Department.

Please take a few minutes to review these important points with your child. Work with us to reinforce the safety procedures your child has learned so they become part of your child’s daily bus routine.

During the drill, we reviewed the following important points with your child:

  • How to safely cross the road in front of the bus

  • The Universal Crossing & Universal Danger Signals

  • How to “Sit and Slide” to evacuate through an emergency door
