College Acceptance Letters
Spring brings showers and flowers – and college acceptance letters for your college-bound seniors. This update from the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation E-Library shines the spotlight on timely topics of interest to you and your students. HESC is the state agency that helps people pay for college.
Access to college loan funds
Some of your students may be concerned about their ability to secure financial aid and loans, particularly in today’s economy. HESC assures New York’s students that access to student loan funds remains available. As students and families make plans for financing the 2008-09 academic year, they can be confident that access to their college of choice remains attainable and affordable.
Comparing college financial aid award letters
As college acceptance letters and subsequent financial aid awards arrive, your students will be weighing their options and making important decisions about the best fitting college. The HESC E-Library features a story you may use to help them compare the offers. Click here to read the article, Comparing Award Letters.
Invisible costs of college
In the excitement of getting ready to go to college, students may overlook some of the “hidden costs” of college, such as dorm room furnishings, supplies, and fees. Click here to read an article you may use to help students and families become aware of the “invisible costs of college.”
Regents Review Live!
Many of your high school juniors and seniors are getting ready for the New York State Regents exams. For nine years, HESC has been a proud sponsor of Regents Review Live! Click here for a schedule of the upcoming review shows airing in May on your local public television station.
April is Financial Literacy Month
HESC reminds students, families and counselors that April is Financial Literacy Month. As students grapple with increased credit card debt, HESC offers its series of free financial literacy curricula called Financial Awareness and Consumer Training for Students (FACTS). Presented in modules, customizable and downloadable at any time, FACTS is a convenient and effective learning tool for your students. Click here to learn more about financial literacy.
Newsletters for students and parents available
HESC administers the New York GearUp grant and publishes newsletters for students and parents that may be of interest to your students and families, too. The latest GearUp publications are available online for you to download and print: Ready, Set, Go! for middle school students; Your Choices for high school students; and Parent Connection for families.
